Recently, our very own Christine Flynn, a paralegal at Haggerty, Goldberg, Schleifer & Kupersmith, P.C., and co-author Andrea Yannuzzi wrote an article titled, “Keep it Personal and Promptly Return Phone Calls,” which has been published by The Legal Intelligencer. In the article, the authors discuss how communication in the legal arena is often handled digitally. While this can be efficient for some duties, the authors assert that human interaction must remain part of working relationships with insurance adjusters, clients, and opposing counsel.
The authors state that contacting a client via phone allows them to comprehend various components of communication, including voice, tone, expression, and reaction. The authors added, “This mode also provides a paralegal with an important window into the psychological and emotional state of a client following an incident or event. In turn, personal interaction serves to bolster a client’s trust and cooperation ultimately building upon the relationship with the legal team.”
Both authors believe it is important for individuals to consider the importance of human interaction and how this type of communication can relieve a client’s stress. In addition, communicating via phone or in person can improve the relationships between two or more people, helping the professional gain the respect of clients, counsel, and colleagues. To learn more about what Flynn and Yannuzzi have to say about the importance of human interaction within the legal arena, read their recent article.
