HGSK Shares Smart & Simple Summer Safety Suggestions

The summer season can be a delight for you and your family. There are road trips to plan, pool and beach days to enjoy, warm nights to calm us, and so much more. But if you want to make the most of the season, you need to know how to do so safely. As with spring, autumn, and winter, summer has some unique hazards other than just heat you might not have thought about.

Haggerty, Goldberg, Schleifer & Kupersmith, P.C. recently shared some simple and smart summer safety suggestions with El Palo Magazine. The publication is popular throughout Reading, Pennsylvania and its surrounding communities for its focus on Latino culture and influences, discussions of day-to-day matters, and generally lighter offerings than most newsgroups. The five summer safety tips shared by HGSK are:

  1. Responsible hosting: The summertime means hosting plenty of parties with your friends, family members, and neighbors. Reduce your chances of being targeted by a premises liability claim by making certain your property is guest-ready before people arrive. Fix any obvious hazards, like uplifted carpeting, and make certain guests are well aware of any issues you cannot immediately address.
  2. Grill safety: BBQ is synonymous with summer nights in most parts of America. To make certain your grill only causes happy stomachs, not serious injuries, follow basic BBQ safety guidelines. This includes positioning the grill well away from your home, never allowing any children to get near the BBQ while it is in use, and always checking the cooking temperature of foods placed on it before serving.
  3. Sharing vacation plans: You will want to share your vacation plans with trusted friends and family, but not with everyone. Refrain from posting your schedule away from home on social media, where would-be thieves might be lurking. Announcing you are going to be gone all week or that you are at the airport awaiting a flight to Cancun can be tempting for someone to break into your property, take some valuables, and scram.
  4. Pool safety: Pools are inherently dangerous for anyone who is not a skilled swimmer. Do not let any guests use your pool alone. There should always be at least one other person present in case of trouble. Children should also always be accompanied by an adult.
  5. Hot car dangers: Remember that a parked car can reach dangerous temperatures in a matter of minutes during the summer. Never leave a pet or child unattended in your vehicle. It is not safe to leave them alone inside your car, even if you keep the AC running.
